Last Life in the Universe is a charming, haunting independent film about a man named Kenji, an obsessive-compulsive librarian who seems bent on committing suicide. He spends most of his lonely days in his apartment. His life completely changes when he witnesses the death of Nid seconds before he was about to jump off a bridge. This pivotal event paired Kenji with Nid's elder sister Noi. These two lost and lonely souls help each other find the meaning to their meaningless existences.
Though confusing at some points, this movie kept me captivated the entire way through. After watching it a few times, it makes a lot more sense. The character interactions are adorable; Kenji and Noi communicate mostly in broken English and fragments of their native languages. The soundtrack is beautiful, and flows perfectly well with the feel of the film. The ending is somewhat depressing, but at the same time uplifting. The events are saddening, but the change in Kenji's character is endearing. Last Life in the Universe is definitely worth checking out at least once.
Repo! The Genetic Opera
In the not-so-distant future, an epidemic of organ failures devastates the entire planet. Out of the ashes rises GeneCo, a biotech company that offers organ transplants for a price. Those who cannot keep up with these payments are hunted down by mysterious people known as 'Repo Men.' Repo's story follows Shilo, a girl with a rare blood disease who lives with her overprotective father, Nathan, who leads a double life as a loving doctor and a caring father, and the Repo Man that so many fear. The history between Nathan and Rotti Largo, head of GeneCo, unravels as the story progresses, and it becomes apparent that the characters have deeper connections that initially believed.
It's a bit difficult to place Repo in any one genre of movie. If I had to classify it as anything, it would be a Horror/Rock Opera. The music featured in this 'opera' is both eclectic and original. Many have criticized the songwriting for its simplicity, but I personally like it; the 'simplicity' seems more realistic, as if actual spoken dialog between realistic characters, with an 'average' vocabulary (if that makes sense). My only complaint is the sometimes over saturated colors on some of the clips, and the lack of deleted scenes or special features on the DVD. If you appreciate music, can deal with gore, and enjoy something fresh and original, give Repo a spin!

The gals I work with went to see Unborn. I didn't get to go because I don't have transportation xP They said it was really good, though. I generally don't get into horror/thrillers myself, though.
@ Zacky: Any certain genre you're in the mood for? I can take a whack at recommending something xD

Repo's amazing It has some pretty funny scenes too xD Like this or this one.
Otherwise, if you want something newer, I'd say Step Brothers is a good bet if you haven't seen it already. Hilarious x]
Or, based on personal faves, just about any Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma) or Mel Brooks (Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs, The Producers) movies are always good for laughs.

Thanks I've heard mixed reviews, but I still want to see it. I might make a trip to the video store my next day off x] The only thing that seems like it would weaken the movie in the slightest would be Javier Bardem's hairdo xD
